Mr. Policeman!!!!

September 21, 2010

Well never could i have imagined that my city actually had 80,000 policemen/women, despite newspapers reporting so. How could i believe that? Whenever you are in trouble you can never spot a single police person in sight!

But one fine morning walking down to my CWG venue from the metro station i saw a swarm of old, fat, loud men & women (not old n fat) outside my office(sounds nice). It hit me that the all were policemen. OMG sooooo many!!

Soon after me and my friends went around the hall grinning from ear to ear cause none of us had ever seen such a site. We just couldn’t imagine the sheer no. of police persons around us. We looked like kids with a new toy. One of us exclaimed in a rather loud voice, “Itne saare policewale!!!“, which a number of people heard & started laughing.

We were so obsessed and astounded with the no. of policemen that we started snapping pics & making videos. I know you might consider it rather juvenile but you had to be there to understand why was it that we were so happy!!

Soon even the policemen understood why we guys were so amused to see them all, and started to grin  every time we would be around.

After a few days  of distributing accreditation cards to them did all of us get used to seeing sooo many police guys around us (though we still found it amusing). I soon started wondering that would our wo/men in uniform be at their best during the games? Would they be kind & gracious, helpful & welcoming? Or would they be rude & law breakers themselves? That only time can tell.

One thing that every Delhite must be thinking over the past few days is that if 40,000 policemen(pm) would on CWG duty then who would be protecting our city? Already the pm to citizen ratio is so low & then if halved wouldn’t the crime rate soar like an eagle??

I am worried, but thankfully i live in central Delhi thus the pm in & around my place have increased. But what about those far-flung colonies?? Do they not have a right to security? Do they not pay taxes which sustain the police firm?

I’m sure that as we plan of going on a vacation during the hols, a number of criminals are thinking of coming to Delhi!! It is a bit worrisome.

But then mr. policemen rarely do work, so whether they are on CWG duty or not i guess we are as safe as we have always been. Mr. policeman you have to wake up!!

Save us Lord..
