Gareebi ya Gareeb hatao?

November 18, 2010

Tea at Imperial, accompanied with strawberry sorbet. This is the typical menu at events where Poverty and Food Security are discussed. Ironic isn’t it?! Meeting for lunch to discuss Hunger. This is got to be the highest level of intellectual snobbery. Or so I think.

After having spent thousands of crores on different employment and poverty and food projects every year and not having yielded any result (thanks to corruption) some dude came up with the bestest plan ever. Why bother elevating poverty when one can simply eliminate to  the povert stricken ones!! The benefits are two-fold : One gets rid of poverty and secondly, no more exploding population!!

Gosh why didn’t anyone think about this before? Had there been no disgruntled poor punks somewhere in the village of Naxalbari  there would have never been the problem of Naxalites. We all could have carried on with our lives happily. The government would have been happy cause there wouldn’t have been any problem called internal security nor would the taxpayers money have been wasted on some Oh-so-lame-people-with-guns!!

Well come on that’s how the Commonwealth Games were a success. Not a single popper in sight, and trust me we loved. Didn’t the roads all of a sudden seem really nice and clean? No one knocking on your window for alms?! ”Oh those people can’t they get themselves jobs? Come on i work for a living don’t I?” That is what half of us say whenever we see someone with a katora in their hand.

Gareebi kya, Gareeb Hatao!

Now this has got to be the highest level of intellectual snobbery!!

Think over it, If there will be no poverty how will our pseudo intellectual leaders rule over the country? A country comprising of intelligent and prosperous people will be so difficult to govern, that is the prime reason why a chunk of our population is never given a chance to prosper and think beyond earning a livelihood.

    You write good.

    So very true.. 😐
And you know, I just noticed this sometime ago, their was this anti-poverty convention in which even Shabana Azmi and Shobha Dei were present, they were wearing Kanjvaram saris and gold and Diamond finery, and their pictures came on page 3..
and the theme for the convention was ‘Make Poverty History’. 😯
    Such big hypocrites man! 😡
