The DU trauma

January 17, 2011

Well little was i aware when i was joining this ‘prestigious’ university that my next three years were going to be nothing but a huge trauma. Lack of teachers, unclear course, constant strikes, fees hikes to name just a few.

If first year wasn’t bad enough with all the above mentioned problems, the second year turned out to be even worse! I lost my classmate and beloved friend, our ‘Professional’ course was completely sidelined and to add to our woes the semester system ended up being a boot up our arse.

I have have no problem with a semester system, well if i did i wouldn’t have joined my course cause it always was a sem system. But the entire controversy around other courses  was the death of our academic term. With two teachers teaching us- one from our dept. and the other from the pol sci dept meant that on the day of DUTA strikes we would have only one class, with our darling Ms S.C (not being sarcastic).

And well it just keeps on getting worse, our pol sci teacher dumped us for another college!! Why?? What wrong did we guys do?!?

To cheer me up andspend some good (no great) quality my mom booked a nice trip to Lakshadweep! Gosh i went totally gaga over the very thought, not knowing that DU was out there to ruin it for me. 😥  Well since journalism has always been a semester system i was sure that my exams would be over in December. Even the date-sheet posted on our bulletin board said so, but our VC had a sudden change of mind on post-poned our exams  to January.

Well though this didn’t stop me from going it did ensure that I made the various libraries in Delhi my home and moreover carried that irky person named tension all along.

Now another aspect of the sudden change in our academic calendar has started troubling me. Since our 3rd semester exams were postponed so will our 4th sem ones be. That means that no longer will we be able to intern for long as our holidays have been reduced. So much for being a professional course!!

Well the old adage “Man proposes, God proposes” does hold true,   or shall i say  Student proposes, DU disposes!!

Truly bad. Same thing here in Hyderabad with Osmania University students. Absolute uncertainty.

It is important that students today should gear up themselves, explore various resources around, equip themselves with the required knowledge than depending on the educational institutions. The colleges get their fee, they survive. If student don’t get up on his own, it will his / her loss.

The worse thing is that no one feels responsible at all. They just don’t care!
